What are we learning?

Students will be able to...

Literacy

  • Answer questions about fiction and non-fiction texts using evidence from the text.

  • Read fables, fairy tales, and folktales from diverse cultures and determine the central message, moral or theme using details from the text.

  • Compare and contrast themes, settings, and plots of stories written by the same author with similar characters.

  • Determine the main idea and details of a text, and explain how the details support the main idea.

  • Compare and contrast important details from two texts on the same topic, using informational text. 

  • Write narrative stories and work through the editing and revising process to create a published piece.

Math

  • Solve one and two step word problems using addition and subtraction.

  • Add and subtract 2 and 3 digit numbers within 1000.

  • Use place value strategies to solve word problems and equations.

  • Read, create, and analyze bar and picture graphs.

  • Solve word problems using data from graphs and line plots.

 

Science

  • Learn and describe major parts of the Solar System.

  • Describe how the changes in the Solar System affect day, night, seasons, and the weather.

  • Describe the relationship between the sun, moon, and stars.

  • Learn and use important vocabulary words in science writing and discussion.

Social Studies

  • Learn that citizens have rights and responsibilities that affect the community

  • Learn how personal beliefs impact personal choices, rights, and responsibilities

  • Learn about the Bill of Rights and The Constitution
